Finding Something Lost That We Think Could Never Be Found

Question

Describe a time where something important to you was lost, and then after a short or long search, you found it. Tell the story. How did you feel while it was lost? How did you feel when it was found?

Story 
“Uh Oh, its Magic….” Yes, It’s a great line from one of my favorite songs by the Cars, but it’s also a theme that has been going on in our house the last few days. We have an eight year old boy who suddenly has taken a huge interest in magic, specifically in the form of card tricks. 

He loves to pull out a deck and have us choose a card and after we look at it, bury it back in the deck. The first time I thought there is no way he is going to find it. Yet, after a few slide of hand maneuvers, he pulls the card back out and says “Is this your card?” I am surprised and super impressed. 

Truth
So often in life we can lose our way and feel lost when it comes to our direction and purpose. Our mistakes can often pile up and those wrong turns can leave us feeling far from where we want to be. 

The beauty is that we have a Savior who always searches for the lost and will leave all things behind to find the one that he is looking for. Many times that one He is looking for is you and me. No matter where we have been, or what we have done He rejoices when we are found and reunited with Him again. He finds us like a card in a deck that we think can’t be found.

Jesus once went to dinner and spent time with Zacchaeus, a Tax Collector. He was a sinner who lied and cheated people time and time again. He was hated by most everyone. Jesus chose to have dinner with him and as a result, Zacchaeus chose to trust his life to Him. Jesus said in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Application
Our lives have been redeemed by Jesus. Each of us is lost without Him as a guide and a savior. Any situation where we think all is lost, he miraculously rescues and finds.

When do you feel far from Jesus? When do you feel closest to Him? 

Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for loving us and always looking for us when we have lost our way. Thank you for forgiving our sins. Help us to remember how close you are and that we can never escape your love, no matter what.
