Fear

When Life Is Like A Rollercoaster Ride That You Want To End

Question
Describe the first time you rode an amusement park ride or any other sort ride that scared you.
Story
When I was 12 years old I remember getting on my first roller coaster. It was at Ellitch Gardens located in Lakewood, Colorado. I remember stepping on the coaster and getting strapped in feeling nervous and excited about what was ahead. Slowly the coaster left the gate and you could feel the chain below take hold and then the tick, tick, tick as we went up the hill that seemed like a massive mountain to me. I was excited, anxious and looking forward to what was ahead. Then the coaster crested the hill, and the next minute of my life flew by as I struggled to catch my breath, keep my eyes open, and still my brain as my entire body rattled like never before. I was terrified. I couldn’t wait for the ride to be over. I didn’t go on a coaster again for at least the next ten years.
Application
Right now, so many of us feel like we are on a ride that we want to get off. Wether we are afraid, overwhelmed or angry, we find ourselves on something that we never anticipated being on and that something is a whole lot more unstable then we could have ever imagined.
Truth
A verse that has always brought me peace and comfort in chaotic times is Philippians 4:6-7, it reads, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Question
What are you anxious or worried about right now? As life shakes around us, what are you turning to and trusting in? What is a worry or two that you can say out loud and pray about right now?
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for loving us and being there for us in this time. Lord I would like to hand over to you Worry (A,B,C) right now and trust that you Love Me, Love our Family, Love our Community and World more than I could, or could ever imagine. Thank you for being with me and carrying this burden for me. Help me to hand it over to you more and more every day.
Amen.
